- Unter dem Geröll liegen grosse glatte Felskörper. Gebogen wie das Skelett eines Dinosauriers das langsam zum Vorschein kommt. Der Berg bewegt sich. Meist unmerklich aber ab und zu ganz schnell. Und wenn sich die Schichten zeigen, die sich über Jahrmillionen abgelagert haben, werden wir dran erinnert, dass die Gesteinsmassen die wir Gebirge nennen, einmal Meer waren.

A hybrid concert-ritual for an octophonic sound installation and a master of ceremony commissioned by «weit&» in 2021.

About the project:
Frag uns nicht, wer wir sind is a 1-hour hybrid based upon the biblical story of the three magi. The project was one of the winning propositions for the weit& initiative, in which the selected artist has to explore the space of a Catholic church from Zürich (in my case: the DreikönigenKirche ). The main topics it concentrates on are communication, miscommunication, identity and connectedness and it was conceived as having both an artistic dimension and a spiritual one. The matter out of which is constructed is based on the selected texts („Wise, we?” by Stephan Teuwissen, The Bible and Queen Marie of Romania memoirs), music, movement (both live and virtual) and lights. The live movement is performed by a master of ceremony, role which is fulfilled by Meinrad Furrer, theologian and the weit& coordinator. Through his actions - more akin to rituals - there is an attempt to create the illusion of invoking voices from the loudspeakers, which gradually get exposed as being some sort of entities merely related to the three magi. Sonically speaking the approach is one born out of austerity: the human voice predominates, with the addition of only three instruments: the singing bowl, the incense and the ritual drum. These ritual instruments are mostly used live by the master of ceremony. Despite this fact, both austerity and flamboyancy are being employed compositionally, as a result of the concepts derived from my analysis of the topic. From the point of view of form the macrostructure is moulded after the main text, but its backbone is rooted in the design of the Christian liturgy (be that Catholic or Orthodox).

- Die Arbeit reflektiert die eigene künstlerische Praxis in Tongestaltung nach verschiedenen Aspekten von ökologischem Denken. Mit Hilfe von Ideen der Biomimicry, Ansätzen des regenerative Designs und Expert*innenwissen zur Flechtensymbiose formt sie eine eigenständige Herangehensweise an elektroakustische Klangkunst. Inmitten der Solarpunkbewegung und Strömungen aus der Kunst, wie Eco Art und Ecological Sound Art, findet sie ihren kulturellen Kontext. Die praktische Arbeit vertieft das angeeignete Wissen anhand eines elektronischen Musikinstruments, welches nach dem Vorbild der Flechtensymbiose aufgebaut ist. Entsprechende Prozesse werden mit solarbetriebenen Raspberry Pi Computer, Arduino-Board und Sensoren imitiert. Fragen hinsichtlich elektroakustischem Sound Design und musikalischer Gestaltung können so, mit Einbezug der erarbeiteten Perspektiven, konkret evaluiert werden.

- 1920 besetzt der Dichter Gabriele D’Annunzio mit einem Haufen Deserteure eine Stadt für Italien, die der italienische Staat nicht will.
Und zwischen der Stimme des Dichters, den knallenden Stiefeln auf dem Asphalt, dem Rauschen der Maschinen in den Fabriken vor der Küste zieht sich in einem rasenden Fest alles zusammen.
Zischend die Ideen der Avantgarde-Kunst, die Schrecken aus den schneebedeckten Bergen.
Von der Bühne treten die Symbole ins Leben, die Mussolini in Mailand dankbar entgegennimmt.
Arbeiter*innen taumeln zwischen den Feiernden .
Kokain von der Decke herab, zwei Lippen berühren sich fast und das Begehren zieht sich hindurch.
Yoga und Liebesdreieck, Befreiung der Frau und Feier der Nation. Eine Verfassung auf Basis der Musik – Faschismus.
Alles rattert durch die Strassen von Fiume als geschichtliches Zwischenspiel: Was passiert, wenn alles herunterbricht, wenn die Katastrophe schon passiert ist und die Widersprüche einen Punkt erreicht haben, an dem es kein Zurück mehr gibt? Was, wenn die liberale Ideologie einen unlösbaren Anschlagpunkt erreicht hat, der Moment für die Revolution schon vorbei und begleitet von Orgien und Schreien nach Leben und Liebe schon die nächste Katastrophe im schwarzen Hemd herbeimarschiert?
Das Theaterstück „Fiume“ behandelt die Besetzung der Stadt Fiume durch die Arditi, die Sturmtruppen der italienischen Armee, die desertierten und sich 1919 dem Dichter Gabriele D’Annunzio anschlossen.
Da die Region um die Stadt nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg nicht an Italien fiel, fühlten sich viele nationalistisch denkende Italiener_innen betrogen und unterstützten das Bestreben D’Annunzios und seiner Schar, die Stadt für Italien zu besetzen. Die italienische Regierung forderte den Rückzug der Besetzer_innen und umstellte die Stadt, erlaubte aber erst nach eineinhalb Jahren direkte militärische Intervention. In der Zwischenzeit entwickelte sich innerhalb der Stadt ein Schmelztiegel verschiedener Ideologien: Protofaschistische Ideen trafen auf sozialistische Anschauungen, Freigeister sahen in Fiume die Möglichkeit einer Rückkehr zur Natur.
Heute steht die Besetzung von Fiume für die Geburt der faschistischen Ästhetik. Das Theaterstück begleitet die Besetzung von Beginn bis zu ihrem Ende, beobachtet die politischen Geschehnisse in, um und nach Fiume und zoomt ins Privatleben der historisch beteiligten Figuren.

- Linking Cultures versteht sich als internationales Austauschprogramm zwischen Studierenden und Dozierenden von Kunst- und Designhochschulen aus Beirut, Berlin, Kairo, Marrakesch und Zürich.
Im Frühjahr 2020 entstand als Reaktion auf die durch die Covid-19-Pandemie genutzten digitalen Austauschmöglichkeiten die Idee einer Kooperation zwischen verschiedenen Design- und Kunsthochschulen aus Nordafrika, dem Nahen Osten und Westeuropa. Aus dieser Idee ist inzwischen ein artikuliertes, gemeinsames Online-Programm hervorgegangen, das nun weiterentwickelt werden soll.
Das Thema der Studierendenprojekte und der Vorlesungsreihe im Frühjahr 2022 lautet «Design as Dissent». In zehn transkulturellen Studierendenteams werden Konzepte entwickelt, die sich die problemlösende Stärke von Design zu Nutze machen und einen Beitrag für Herausforderungen unserer Zeit leisten. Eine öffentliche Vortragsreihe zwischen dem 8. März und dem 19. April begleitet das Programm.
Im Herbstsemester finden sogenannte «Students for Students»-Präsentationen statt, die zum gegenseitigen Verständnis der unterschiedlichen Hochschulen und Studiengänge beitragen.
Für die Weiterentwicklung des Programms soll nun die Online-Präsenz um eine kollaborative Plattform weiterentwickelt und ein physischer Austausch mit Studierenden und Dozierenden organisiert werden. Eine Erweiterung der teilnehmenden Kunst- und Designschulen wird darüber hinaus in Erwägung gezogen.
