In recent decades, the phenomenon of burnout has received extensive research within social sciences and medicine understood as a psychological syndrome due to work-related stress. However, other formulations of burnout exist that came to light during the pandemic, particularly those not tied to waged-work and the increasing sense of burnout as a ‘social mood’ rather than only an individual affliction. In a post-pandemic world there is an urgency to broadening the understanding of burnout as it has evolved over the past three years. This study takes the experience of burnout as an entry point into a multi-faceted analysis of contemporary culture. Limitations of previous studies relegating burnout to only the psychological or workplace-based leave gaps calling for a research of the phenomenon’s psychosomatic aspects that take seriously the body as a producer of knowledge, and interrogations into its different iterations and variety of circumstances it is arising from–immigrant burnout or institutional burnout to name but two. This study uses artistic and transdisciplinary research methods to expand readings of burnout and understand its evolving status post-pandemic and as an en masse or collective feeling. Practice-based and theory-merged research methodologies, tools, instruments and devices are described reflectively in the contexts, happenings, and interventions of their application. The result is both an expanded understanding of the burnout phenomenon and the potential of transdisciplinary approaches to increase and deepen understanding, account for the previously unaccounted details, and open up new insights and ways of knowing. This fresh look at burnout provides new entry points to understanding a growing sense of social exhaustion that implicates body, mind, and a range of cultural, economic, and socio-political factors that is no longer limited to work-place complaints or psychological syndrome.

How long have you not heard some stories of female elders?
My master's project is called Old Friends of Time in Fragrant Harbour. During my one-year study in Zurich, I could keep on working on my previous project as a continuity and on a bigger scale and think of the ideas and notions that I would like to transmit in this prospect. I aim to creating a unique view, share a message as an artist. The terms that I use are also important to convey this idea. My core research question is: How can the embodiment of intergenerational questions through a sensory experience bring the audience to reflect on communication problems and stereotyping between young people and elderly people?
Now, my master project is an transdisciplinary experience design project integrating video, sound, photography, pictures, performing interaction and experimental creative products (mainly smell soap). Also, the project is about valuing the stories and know-how of elderly women, about giving visibility and space to this not often heard narrative in the public space. Therefore, it is based on a co-creative process that I run together with six elderly woman from mainland China and Hong Kong, which I consider the co-author of this project. More importantly, I want to give a platform for under-represented elderly women to share their life stories in new and unexpected ways with the public. So I take the life stories of grandmothers as the creative background, use the medium of smell soap, and combine my own body to interact with soaps. With the passage of time, the friction of the body and the scouring of liquid, soap gradually changes from solid to liquid under various forms of consumption. These changes will make this work of art pull the author and audience into an instant state. The changes of social development, the transience and eternity of history complement each other, and the common experience with a female elder as a child. These will make the author and the audience put themselves into memories and experiences to complete a deeper reflection on their own identity cognition and current situation.

«Off-Kilter»
«Off-Kilter» is an idiomatic expression that means something is not quite right or is out of balance. It can also refer to a person who is acting in an unusual or unexpected way. Overall, it suggests that something is not in its proper or expected state.
The film uses the trail through the trees as a metaphor for time and the body's journey through it, offering a portrayal of how the effects of brain diseases can disrupt movement and balance.
Through specific movement qualities, the film explores how the body can get effected by symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, slowness, and loss of balance, providing a powerful visual representation of how the decline of the brain can affect the human body.

Was du hier tust, ist legal.«
