NEST ist ein vom Departement Fine Arts initiierter Ausstellungsraum innerhalb des Gebäudes der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Die Kurator_innen Gabrielle Schaad und Gabriele Garavaglia ermöglichen mit einer Reihe von Gruppenausstellungen den «osmotischen» Austausch über institutionelle Grenzen hinweg. Ihr Programm zeigt unter assoziativen, thematischen Klammern relevante Positionen des jüngeren internationalen Kunstschaffens in der Schweiz und anderswo.
Die erste Ausstellung mit dem Titel «Room of Requirement» fand vom 15. Dezember 2018 bis 15. Februar 2019 statt und umfasste Werke von Valentin Carron, Gina Folly, Chiara Clark Siravo, Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi, Miriam Laura Leonardi, Lorenza Longhi, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Mohamed Almusibli, Karolin Brägger, Hanne Lippard, Costanza Candeloro.
Die zweite Ausstellung «Into the Pit» eröffnet am 28. März 2019 und war bis zum 17. April 2019 zu sehen.
Der Titel «Into the Pit» bezieht sich auf den Slam-Dancing-Bereich bei Heavy Metal-Punk-Rock-Konzerten direkt neben der Bühne oder ganz allgemein auf einen subversiven Ort der Befreiung und apotropäischer Rituale.

«TESLA OF JUSTICE» eröffnet am 16. Juni 2019 und war bis zum 24. August 2019 zu sehen.
Tesla of Justice ist eine Gruppenausstellung mit sieben Künstlern, darunter Studierende des Bachelor- und Masterstudiengangs Fine Arts der ZHdK, die auf den gleichnamigen Open Call reagiert haben. Auf diese Einladung hin hat ein Komitee von Künstlern und Kuratoren der Fakultät James Bantone, Jasmine Gregory, Milena Langer, Roman Selim Khereddine, Samuel Haitz, Tobias Baertsch, Yamu Wang ausgewählt, ihre Arbeiten zu kombinieren und im Ausstellungsraum NEST zu zeigen.
Der Titel Tesla of Justice könnte sich auf viele verschiedene Visionen beziehen, wie das Auto eines modernen Rächers, eine Medienmitteilung, den Widerspruch von Gerechtigkeit und Privileg, Nachhaltigkeit, Ökologie oder Technologie.

Die vierte Ausstellung "Collapse Sink"

Eine Ausstellung mit Beiträgen von Master- und Bachelor Fine Arts-Studierenden des Departements Kunst & Medien der ZHdK. Geologisch ist eine "Einsturzsenke" definiert als ein Senkloch, das aus dem lokalen Zusammenbruch einer Höhle resultiert, die durch Lösung und Erosion vergrößert wurde. Sowohl natürliche als auch künstliche Prozesse können die Ursache sein. Ein Zusammenbruch deutet jedoch auf eine parallele Realität hin, die für unsere Handlungen empfindlich ist oder von ihnen abhängt. Die physische Dynamik und räumliche Konstellation einer Einsturzsenke kann mehrere Bedeutungen annehmen: Deponie, dunkle Seite, Tor zu einer anderen Sphäre, Virtualität, Quelle der Kritik, etc.
Die fünfte Ausstellung “Tiny Miracles”

“Tiny Miracles” ist eine Gruppenausstellung mit drei Künstler_innen, Cory Arcangel (*1978), Mitchell Anderson (*1985) und Marlie Mul (*1980). Die hier versammelten Positionen werden gemeinhin dem vage gefassten Begriff der “Post-Internet Art” zugeordnet. In ihren spezifischen Untersuchungen nähern sie sich aus unterschiedlicher Warte den über Netzwerke in Umlauf gebrachten Bild-, Erfahrungs- und Konsumwelten. Dabei loten sie ebenso unterschiedliche Medien wie Inhalte aus. Die Gegenüberstellung im Rahmen der Ausstellung im NEST verdichtet und eröffnet neue Spielräume durch analog oder digital aufgegriffene Ready-Mades, die die Begriffe künstlerischer Handschrift und künstlerischen Vokabulars ebenso unterlaufen wie erweitern.

NEST is an exhibition space initiated by the Department of Fine Arts within the building of the Zurich University of the Arts. The curators Gabrielle Schaad and Gabriele Garavaglia facilitate an "osmotic" exchange across institutional boundaries with a series of group exhibitions. Their program shows internationally relevant, young positions from contemporary art in Switzerland and abroad, loosely assembled under an associative topic.
The first exhibition 2019, titled “Room of Requirement” took place from 15 December 2018 to 15 February 2019 and it included works by Valentin Carron, Gina Folly, Chiara Clark Siravo, Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi, Miriam Laura Leonardi, Lorenza Longhi, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Mohamed Almusibli, Karolin Brägger, Hanne Lippard, Costanza Candeloro.
The second exhibition “Into the Pit” opens on 28 March 2019 and is on view until 17 April 2019.
The title “Into the Pit” is referring to the slam-dancing area during heavy metal punk rock concerts right next to the stage or more in general to a subversive place of liberation and apotropaic rituals. On this occasion, the intervention of international artists and students working on this subject collapse inside NEST generating a new environmental installation.

Third Exhibition: Tesla of Justice

Tesla of Justice is a collective show featuring the works of seven artists, including students of the ZHdK Bachelor’s and Master’s Fine Arts programme, who responded to the open call of the same na0e.
In response to this invitation, a committee of artists and curators from the faculty has selected James Bantone, Jasmine Gregory, Milena Langer, Roman Selim Khereddine, Samuel Haitz, Tobias Baertsch and Yamu Wang to combine and show their works in the NEST exhibition space. The title Tesla of Justice could refer to many different visions, like the car of a modern avenger, a news item, the contradiction in terms of justice and privilege, sustainability, ecology or technology and so on.

An open call exhibition with contributions by MFA & BFA students from the Department of Art & Media, ZHdK.
Geologically a “collapse sink” is defined as a sink hole resulting from local collapse of a cavern that has been enlarged by solution and erosion. Both natural or artificial processes can be the cause. A collapse however points to a parallel reality sensitive to, or depending on, our actions. The physical dynamics and spatial constellation of a collapse sink can acquire multiple meanings: dumpsite, dark side, gate to another sphere, virtuality, source of criticism, etc.
Fifth Exhibition: Tiny Miracles
Duration: October 25 - November 15, 2019
"Tiny Miracles" is a group exhibition with three artists, Cory Arcangel (*1978), Mitchell Anderson (*1985) and Marlie Mul (*1980). The positions collected here are generally assigned to the vaguely defined term "post-Internet Art". In their specific investigations, they approach the worlds of images, experience, and consumption circulated via networks from different perspectives. They explore different media as well as content. The juxtaposition within the framework of the exhibition at NEST condenses and opens up new scope through analog or digital ready-made works that undermine and expand the concepts of artistic handwriting and artistic vocabulary.
