This Master Thesis engages in analyses of the contested issues interwoven into the hegemonic narrative and memory within monumental propaganda. The aim of the work is to analyze and find curatorial and artistic strategies, which lay beyond historic annihilation and affirmative preservation and lead to the plurality of memories and storytelling through revealing conflicts and open discussions. Grounded in the Post-Soviet bloc context current research turns to the questions of the constructions of memory and hegemonic historic narration within a monument. Figure of a ghost in the relation to monuments is used in this thesis as a metaphor and social concept to shape marginalized, suppressed or neglected stances in the past and present. Facing the ghost author strives to produce another type of knowledge and understanding of conflicts that manifest themselves in contested symbols and issues. Building on five recent examples of performative, discursive, archival and exhibition curatorial and artistic strategies Yulia Fisch layouts a sketch of series of acts and formats, that aim to provide a platform for discussions, conscious commemoration rituals and critical reflection of monuments, that inhabit post-soviet landscape.

In der Bildungspraxis beziehungsweise an der Schnittstelle zwischen Kunst und Bildung werden seit einigen Jahren diskriminierungskritische Diskurse geführt, die unter anderem als Gegenbewegungen zum unkritischen Umgang mit Diversität zu verstehen sind. Kurator:innen und Kulturvermittler:innen kommen also nicht umhin, sich mit ihren eigenen Diskriminierungen auseinanderzusetzen.
Es stellt sich nur die Frage, wie sie dies innerhalb von institutionellen Strukturen tun sollen. Getrieben von eigenen Widersprüchen, Eingeständnissen und Selbstzweifeln untersucht Marcel Hörler, wie eine diskriminierungskritische Praxis in Kulturbetrieben entwickelt werden könnte. Die institutionellen, projekt-/programm- sowie publikumsbezogenen Handlungsdimensionen bilden den Rahmen und Literaturbezüge aus der diskriminierungskritischen Bildungsarbeit, den Sozial-und Kulturwissenschaften, Praxisbeispielen sowie persönlichen Erlebnissen aus dem eigenen kuratorischen und kulturvermittelnden Handeln die Grundlagen, die zur Ausarbeitung von vier Strategien führt.

The canton of Vaud recently undertook the construction of a new building designed to house three of Lausanne's main museums. This architectural ensemble located near the train station will bring together the museums of fine arts, photography and design – and will reshape the cultural landscape of the city.
For its part, the city of Renens opened a cultural center called “La ferme des Tilleuls” in 2017, which is its first cultural institution focused on the visual arts. On the municipality’s scale, this is also a major development. These two cities, both belonging to the same urban area, have thus restructured their cultural scene, and this almost simultaneously.
This study is based on Pierre Bourdieu's concepts and offers a reflection on the impact of these two events, each on their own scale, for the whole arts scene. By identifying its main stakeholders and sketching the relations linking them, I have tried to highlight some of the major concerns related to this sudden metamorphosis.

This work is dedicated towards a live-site research about a house called “Haldi”, in relation to paracurating and the classifications of this term. In reference to the curatorial associations of paracurating, Haldi is an extensive work in relation to a house of womxn, by exploring the associations of how co-living within this particular space, and the transformative processes that have been created and are yet to be realized. This work draws on a speculative fabulation, an influence of Donna Haraway’s writings “Staying with the Trouble”, where Haldi’s activities and rituals that have taken place will be translated in a fictional and story-telling writing where insights of feminist practices, collective thinking, co-living and care taking play a role of empowerment and situated knowledge is shared amongst the living space of Haldi. Haldi or formally named as Haldenstrasse is situated on top of die Halde in the neighbourhood of Kreis 4 in Zurich.

Im Zeitalter der Informationstechnologie und der fortgeschrittenen Globalisierung überschreiten technowissenschaftliche Einflüsse die Grenzen menschlicher Körper. Sie lösen die alten Gegensätze zwischen Natur – Kultur – Maschine auf und negieren den Menschen als massgebendes und zentrisches Wesen.
Diese Sachverhalte und Mechanismen hinter Körpersubjekten und körperlichen Einschreibungen durch Technologie werden im Rahmen einer Ausstellungs-Motivanalyse nachgezeichnet. Ein inhaltliches Bindeglied der Masterthesis stellt Donna Haraways «Cyborg Konstrukt» dar. Anhand der Ausstellung «Teeth, Gums, Machines, Future, Society» (TGMFS) der Künstler:in Lili Reynaud Dewar, die 2016 im Kunstverein Hamburg zu sehen war, wird aufgezeigt, wie das «Cyborg-Konstrukt» inhaltlich angewendet wurde.

Die Schöllenenschlucht mit ihrer spektakulären Teufelsbrücke und der rauen alpinen Landschaft gilt als Zentrum von bekannten und kräftigen Mythen. Die Mythen stellen einen räumlichen Bezug zu historisch gewachsenen Landschaftsbildern der Alpen her, die als Sinnbilder für Beständigkeit, Wehrhaftigkeit, nationale Identität, Dynamik, technischen Fortschritt und Handel stehen. Die Schlucht ist ausserdem der Eingang in die sagenumwobene Gotthardregion.
In der Masterthesis erarbeitet Christian Imhof ein Konzept für einen temporären Kunst- und Kulturweg. Entlang des begehbaren alten Säumerwegs werden zehn ausgewählte Werke von zeitgenössischen Schweizer Künstler:innen gezeigt, welche die Sichtweisen auf die alpine Landschaft und die damit verbundenen Mythen auf je eigene Art hinterfragen, demontieren oder aktualisieren.
Die Kunstwerke werden als vermittelnde Instanzen verstanden, welche die Betrachter:innen dabei unterstützen sollen, idealisierende und pauschalisierende Wahrnehmungsmuster auf die Alpen zu erkennen und zu hinterfragen. Ähnlich wie die Teufelsbrücke, die einst als ein Verbindungsglied zwischen Kulturen galt, soll der Kunst- und Kulturweg eine Brücke zum gegenwärtigen Alpendiskurs schlagen.

Die Masterthesis befasst sich mit der Thematik der Digitalisierung von Kulturvermittlung und deren Auswirkungen auf partizipative Prozesse. Es wird ausgehend von der aktuellen Situation einer globalen Pandemie und den damit verbundenen Veränderungen in musealen Institutionen nach Chancen und Schwierigkeiten der Digitalisierung in Bezug auf das Einbinden unterschiedlicher Stimmen in museale Entscheidungs- und Deutungsprozesse gefragt.
Dabei wird die digitale Co-Kreation, die als Einbinden von Besuchenden und museumsexternen Personen über digitale Medien in die Produktions- und Konzeptionsprozesse von Ausstellungen verstanden wird, als partizipative Vermittlungsmethode definiert und untersucht.
Brooke Jackson untersucht, welches transformative Potenzial eine solche Vermittlungsmethode birgt, wie weit die museale Deutungshoheit abgebaut werden könnte und wie eine Selbst-Repräsentation unterschiedlicher Öffentlichkeiten erreicht werden kann. Dabei werden auch Hierarchien und Ausschlussmechanismen des digitalen Raumes berücksichtigt.

«Allein denken ist kriminell» ist ein Slogan und die Philosophie des Künstler:innenkollektivs Les Reines Prochaines. Laut Muda Mattis, Mitgründer:in des Kollektivs, hätten viele Ideen und Initiativen niemals stattgefunden, wenn sie alleine gedacht worden wären.
In der Masterthesis werden drei Aspekte befragt. (1) Warum sind die meisten Kunstinstitutionen hierarchisch organisiert (meistens mit einer kuratorischen Position), (2) was sind die Motive, um Ausstellungen im Kollektiv zu konzipieren und (3) wie kann Kollektivarbeit gedacht und organisiert werden, damit sie gelingt.
Anne-Sophie Mlamali engagiert sich selbst in unterschiedlichen Kollektiven, zum Beispiel im «sic! Elephanthouse Kollektiv», das einen Kunstraum in Luzern betreibt.

Acts of protest, demonstrations, social resistance, political response and collective demands have highlighted recent times. Through the photographic medium, movements worldwide have been captured and documented. But can photographs protest? What happens if photography ceases to “accompany” the protest in order to “become” the protest?
This work presents a fundamental research about the photographic medium in relation to the phenomenon of protest, as well as an exhibition concept under the title “Photography protests” for the Kunsthaus Bregenz. The theme of the exhibition explores photography as an active expression of protest through the work of three international artists: Zanele Muholi, Devin Allen and JR.
The research for the exhibition concept is based on a thorough analysis of two perspectives regarding the relationship between photography and protest through the commentary of selected exemplary photographs and authors: the historical representation of protest in photography and the notion of the photographic medium as an active tool to express protest.
