- Die Masterthesis untersucht die Rolle von Emotionen im musealen Kontext, insbesondere bei der Konzeption und Umsetzung von Ausstellungen. Emotionen werden als sozial konstruierte, dynamische Prozesse betrachtet, die unsere Wahrnehmung und Interaktion mit der Welt prägen. In der Thesis wird das Potenzial des affektiven Kuratierens erörtert. Welche Bedeutung haben partizipative Prozesse, multisensorische Szenografie und das Ausstellen schwieriger Themen für die Schaffung emotionaler Nähe und Verbundenheit? Die Analyse konzentriert sich auf die emotionale Wirkung der untersuchten Ausstellung «Heimat. Auf Spurensuche in Mitholz». Ziel ist es, zu verstehen, wie Emotionen eine konstitutive Rolle in der Gesellschaft spielen und als Perspektive für soziales und kulturelles Handeln genutzt werden können.

- The thesis mainly focuses on the expression of ancient Mesopotamian mythology and traditions in contemporary art with the subject of «collective memory». The thesis attributes importance to oral history by the Mesopotamian origin stateless nations, whose written sources and cultural assets have been threatened by hegemonic states throughout history. While emphasizing the importance of collective memory in its social development and investigating the place of mythology in social history, the impact of oral history on culture, memory and recollection is frequently emphasized. The thesis looks into works of artists and curators such as Hito Steyerl and Serhat Kural who are influenced by the cultural production of the Mesopotamian geography and express this with their art.

- Chiara Giardi inquires about curatorial strategies in research-based artistic practices by focusing on the six expositions (i.e. contributions) published in the 26th issue of the Journal for Artistic Research. She is interested in how the authors packed their practice into the expositions: What curatorial strategies were involved in this process? Furthermore, she applies the concept of «Circulating Reference» (Latour 1999) to understand how the expositions claim knowledge. She suggests that curating, if understood in an extended way, has many traits in common with the practice of exposing in the Research Catalogue. The choice of a curatorial perspective is strategic to further understand curatorial practice beyond the professional role of the curator.

- The «Conches Annex» of the Ethnographic Museum of Geneva was developed to house the recently purchased «Amoudruz collection»; containing an extensive and classified variety of objects from the local alpine region. The curators had great ambitions for these newly acquired objects, most notably the objective to «decolonize» the Alps, which was said to be long appropriated since the eighteenth century through literature, travel tales and nationalist narratives.
The term «colonize» is omnipresent in many discourses today, and its use is heavily associated with European imperialist economic missions on external territories for the purpose of trade, labour, and national or religious expansion. The main question for this thesis is the following: Can the term «colonize» also be used in the context of early industrialization on European territory, which was followed by vast urban expansion and exploitation of rural territories and communities?

- Die Gegenwart ist geprägt von planetaren Krisen, welchen wir uns nur als globale Gemeinschaft stellen können. Museen verfügen mit ihrer gesellschaftsorientierenden Funktion über ein grosses Potenzial, Transformation voranzutreiben. Sie tragen damit ebenfalls die Verantwortung, dieses Potenzial für die Bewältigung von Krisen zu nutzen.
Auch das vielschichtige Konzept «Liebe» verfügt über ein solches Potenzial.
Die Autorin schlägt in ihrer Thesis vor, das Kuratieren und die Liebe miteinander zu verbinden. Basierend auf der portugiesisch-brasilianischen Soziomuseologie wird eine kuratorische Vision formuliert, die Kuration und Vermittlung ineinander verwebt, Partizipation, Kollaboration sowie zwischenmenschliche Interaktion ins Zentrum stellt und Radical Care in alle (Denk-)Schritte implementiert. Das «Museum of Love» fungiert als Gefäss zur Umsetzung dieser Vision und widmet sich durch und durch der Liebe.

- Die Thesis geht der Frage nach, inwiefern eine Auseinandersetzung mit lokalen Geschichten das Potenzial birgt, Reflexion und Wandel anzuregen. Anhand der Stadt Dietikon und ihres Ortsmuseums wird untersucht, wie Multiperspektivität in der Museumsarbeit gefördert und ausschliessende Mechanismen reflektiert werden können. Ausgehend davon werden Denkmodelle für gesellschaftskritische und selbstreflexive, auf lokalen Geschichten beruhende Formate in Ortsmuseen entwickelt. In diskursiver Annäherung wird aufgezeigt, wie ausschliessende Mechanismen der weissen Mehrheitsgesellschaft sichtbar gemacht und Wege gefunden werden können, antirassistische Haltungen einzunehmen. In Zeiten des aufstrebenden Neofaschismus soll ein Bewusstsein über reproduzierte epistemische Gewalt in eine solidarische, prozessuale, post-repräsentative Museumspraxis eingeschrieben werden.

- What could be the traces, the remains of performance? How to make them persist? Performance is considered a lively and ephemeral event characterized by the temporary occupation of a space by bodies in a specific timeframe. This study adopts a critical analysis of archival theories, taking into account the contributions of authors such as Diana Taylor, Rebecca Schneider, and Peggy Phelan, drawing on non-Western histories and perspectives. Through this lens, alternatives to the traditional logic of the archive are explored, specifically concerning the role of the spectator as a possible living archive of the performance. The co-presence of bodies
during the here-and-now of the performative event fosters a body-to-body transmission that enables the present moment of the performance to remain, but to remain differently. What possible approaches could then concern the remnants of performance, allowing for the reactivation of
these collective memories embodied in the spectator?

- Kritische bis ironische Inszenierungen und Bildkommentare sowie künstlerische Interventionen zeigen das Spektrum der aktiven Beteiligung der Kunst an den politischen Entwicklungen einer Zeit. Was ist jedoch, wenn Künstler:innen um die eigene Freiheit, ihre Gesundheit und ihr Leben fürchten müssen? Besonders dann, wenn sie sich politisch und
gesellschaftlich engagieren? Die staatliche Unterdrückung diktatorischer und autokratischer Regime zwingt viele Künstler:innen ins Exil. Ihre künstlerischen Erzeugnisse werden von der Erfahrung mitgeprägt. Kurator:innen haben die Verantwortung, diese kulturellen, historischen und subjektiven Kontexte in Ausstellungen aufzuzeigen. Die Thesis untersucht anhand dreier Ausstellungen der in Deutschland lebenden Künstlerin Parastou Forouhar (*1962, Teheran), mit welchen Herausforderungen Kurator:innen im Umgang mit Kunst, die im Kontext des politischen Exils entstand, konfrontiert sind und formuliert Strategien zu deren Bewältigung.

in der Roten Fabrik in Zürich. Dabei werden aktivistische kuratorische
Methoden erläutert und die kuratorische Verantwortung, marginalisierte
Kunstschaffende in einem patriarchalen und weiss-privilegierten System
sichtbarer zu machen, thematisiert. Darauf basierend, reagiert das Ausstellungskonzept «Resist, Support, Inspire» mit einer kuratorischen Intervention auf jüngste rechtsradikale Störaktionen auf die queerfeministische Kunst- und Kulturgesellschaft in Zürich, indem es die künstlerischen Positionen von Gilles Smrkovsky, Ianic Cortes
Santos, Wassili Widmer, Ivy Monteiro, Dario Callerame, Talaya Schmid,
Robin Lütolf und Joëlle Bischof, Jeanne Jacob, Melody Chua und Latefa
Wiersch versammelt.

- After her internship at Helmhaus, Fanny Frey decided to propose a new art mediation concept for the Zurich-based museum. In her thesis, she researches creative placemaking and sociology of space to create an engaging and inclusive art mediation concept for Helmhaus. The thesis includes a case study examining Tate Exchange (Tate Modern, London), Las Agencias (MACBA, Barcelona) and the Löwenbräu (Zurich). Furthermore, Fanny Frey conducted elaborate genealogical research on the terms placemaking and space. Finally, the three-part concept «RE Helmhaus» is introduced; it is based on three pillars: re-thinking, re-visiting and re-claiming. The concept aims to enhance the visitor experience concerning art and to provide a roadmap for creating a dynamic art mediation program at the Helmhaus to contribute to the cultural and social vitality of the local community.

- Ein Überdenken unserer Lebensweise und das Anerkennen der Verflechtung und gegenseitigen Abhängigkeit aller Lebewesen ist angesichts der planetarischen Krise dringend erforderlich. Kunstinstitutionen, die sich mit Fragen der Gegenwart beschäftigen,
nehmen die Thematik der Beziehung von Menschen zu ihrer Lebensumwelt vermehrt in den Fokus. Die Thesis untersucht Ansätze, die sich einer kritischen Praxis zuwenden und kuratorische Situationen als fluide Gefüge aus menschlichen und nicht-menschlichen Teilnehmenden verstehen. Kuratieren als relationale Praxis kann dominierende Narrative herausfordern, Verbundensein zwischen menschlichen und nicht-
menschlichen Akteur:innen anregen und Care-Beziehungen fördern.
Letztlich gilt es, kuratorische Praktiken weiterzuentwickeln und Ausstellungen als Kontaktzonen und Foren der Verhandlung und zu gestalten.

Und wir?» des Stapferhaus Lenzburg, sowie «Nach der Natur» des Humboldt Forum Berlin. Analysiert wird unter anderem die Vermittlung komplexer Themen wie der Klimawandel, das Schaffen von Zukunftsvisionen und das Verhandeln von Handlungsoptionen, der Umgang mit Exponaten und deren Präsentationsformen sowie Interaktionsmöglichkeiten für Besucher:innen innerhalb der Ausstellungen. Dabei fokussiert die Autorin auf die Ausstellungsansätze und -konzepte, um angesichts der ökologischen Krise
