Description in English | - According to Erika Fischer-Lichte, performative art is an event that must be regarded as essentially self-referential and constituting reality. Performative art is tied to the specific moment of its performance, it has to be experienced and lived. One of the things I am interested in is the actual effects which this specific "theatre reality" can have; for the actor and for the spectators, who, according to Erika Fischer-Lichte and the Actor Network Theory (referred to here as ANT), are also actors. The theory puts human and non-human players (actants) on the same level. It was developed by social theory researchers in order, in a nutshell, to consider the question of the conditions in which knowledge is created.
In the practical part of my work, this performative study looks at the key question: How does the performance that the spectator sees in front of them come about? Within this question are subsumed the following questions: What is required for this performance to come about, which circumstances are essential in determining the artistic process and its outcome? Through these questions and the deliberate setting of my work in the context of artistic research, I intend to study the specific evocation of the potential for making new findings through scientific and artistic methods within the performing arts, namely the theatre.
Using methods from the ANT and from pedology (soil science), the artistic process will be realised in the form of a performance and then analysed. This performative study therefore essentially follows on from the text "Circulating Reference" by Bruno Latour. This is about primeval woodland and savanna near Boa Vista and it provides two specific points of reference: on the one hand, a method of observing and analysing your own work, and on the other, the text suggests an answer to the question of how knowledge is created.
With the help of the description and analysis of the transformation process that are given in that text, I hope to uncover the process by which a performance comes into being, and the conditions required for it. When it comes to the performance, it is not the performance itself which will be shown but the stages in the rehearsal process. Of course, this "non--performance" is also making a statement, because the rehearsal process is being (re-)performed. However, the focus is clearly on the rehearsal. The rehearsal process is a series of attempts which find their conclusion in the performance. Rehearsing is therefore a research process with the aim of exploring the "world", or at least that which is "shown" (experienced) in the performance.
