- Im Rahmen eines Vertiefungsprojekts wählen Teilnehmende des CAS Fundamentals of Typography ein Thema aus einem der fünf Semestermodule. Ausgangslage für Simon Hofstede waren Schriftentwürfe aus dem Modul «Zeichen, Wort, Marke». Diese hat er vektorisiert und zu einer digitalen Schrift weiterentwickelt. Markante Einschnitte neben geometrisch runden Formen prägen die Erscheinung der Schrift «Pold».
Entstanden ist eine Schrift, die so lecker aussieht, dass sie sich hervorragend für Brand Designs im Foodbereich eignet.
Eine kleine Auflage an Merchandise Produkten zeigt den Humor und das Potenzial dieses Projekts.

- Verlassen der Freunde, der Liebsten und der Heimat – ein trauriges Lied ist die Ausgangslage für eine Projektarbeit, in welcher Text und Bild kombiniert werden sollen. Auch in ihren Bildern sind Ernsthaftigkeit und Tiefe wiederkehrende Elemente. So konnte Johanna Encrantz als Fotografin auf ein umfangreiches Archiv an eigenen Bildern zurückgreifen und diese mit dem gewählten Songtext kombinieren.
Um die Anmutung eines Manuskripts zu wecken, wurde die Monospace-Schrift New Courier gewählt. Zwischentöne erscheinen in Form von Satz- und Sonderzeichen, ein Layoutraster kommt variantenreich zum Einsatz. Entstanden ist ein 16-seitiges LP-Booklet, in welchem Text und Bild zusammentreffen und doch ihre jeweils eigene Geschichte erzählen.

- Sobald Sonnenlicht von aussen durch die farbigen Kirchenfenster eindringt, entsteht durch einen im Innenraum erzeugter Nebel ein Strahlenmeer aus buntem Licht und verwandelt die Atmosphäre in ein mystisches Erlebnis. Die farbigen Lichtstrahlen scheinen beinah greifbar zu sein und sind dennoch entrückt. Die moderne Architektur, der ovale Grundriss, die Flachkuppel und die von Ferdinand Gehr 1954 gestalteten Kirchenfenster werden so ganz neu erlebbar.
Hat es kein direktes Sonnenlicht, erscheint uns das Licht im Innern der Kirche weiss und nicht bunt, da sich die Farben additiv mischen.
Diese fix installierte Tageslichtinstallation in der Pfarrei St. Felix und Regula macht das im Raum vorhandene, aber unsichtbare bunte Licht mit Hilfe von Nebel sichtbar und erlebbar. Die Steuerung des Hazers erfolgt mit Hilfe von Lichtsensoren, die an den Fensterscheiben platziert sind. Wir sehen dadurch eine Materialisierung des eindringenden farbigen Sonnenlichts in Abhängigkeit der Tages- und Jahreszeit. Besonders eindrücklich ist die damit einhergehende atmosphärische Transformation des Raums.
Anlässlich der Langen Nacht der Kirchen am 2.6.2023 wurde die Sonne mit Hilfe von drei Moving Lights simuliert, die auf dem Kirchturm und zwei Nachbargebäuden platziert waren.

A Bottleneck of Opportunity

- The vast improvements of generative audio AIs have created powerful new tools to generate audio
content for a wide target group. Popular audio generation models, like Suno and Udio, enable users to
generate high-quality music by writing a text prompt. This makes them very accessible and easy to use
for the average person, but for audio professionals such as musicians and sound designers, they lack
expressivity and adjustability because of their text prompt interface and non-real-time audio
generation. Novel approaches to AI audio generation like IRCAM RAVE offer solutions to these
problems by generating audio in real time and abandoning the need for text prompting and offering
direct and precise control of the generation through the model’s latent variables. This inevitably raises
the question of how an interface for a real-time-generative-audio-model that abandons the need for
text prompting could be designed and if this method offers potential for new sound design and music
tools.
This thesis explores one of various ways of designing an interface for a real-time-generative-audio-
model by giving the user methods to experimentally explore RAVE models with a variety of
interaction methods. These interaction methods range from simple sliders to 3D physical models, with
each method exploring a distinct way to interact and therefore generate audio content. During an
expert review, the interface was evaluated to gather feedback on its perception and usability, as well as
the interaction methods used. Using this expert review, the interface was enhanced with new
interaction methods. This thesis concludes with an outlook for future generative audio models and
what audio professionals may expect to incorporate them into their workflows.
