How can the 3D software OverCoat be used to create a video game that achieves graphic effects comparable to painting?
For his Master’s thesis, Flurin Jenal has developed a computer game that focuses on a new graphic style. To enhance the entertainment value of the medium of gaming, Flurin uses for his games graphics a 3D software still in development by Disney Research, which allows three-dimensionality and painting to be depicted within the Unity development environment. To date in the industry, there have in fact been some attempts at 3D painting, but because of the technical limitations there is still no all-encompassing solution for representing this aesthetic.
The game created is a flagship version intended to provide the best marketing opportunity for the technology. The maximum utilization of the potential of the production is ensured through the use of Design Rules formulated by Flurin Jenal through testing, the use of examples and – for the theoretical component – his own thesis.
