Description in English
The institution of the museum is closely entwined with the concept of "nation". National museums, in particular, claim the right to define what forms a country's cultural heritage. Migration stories that suggest the relative rather than absolute status of a culture based on the collective national memory generally occupy only a marginal place in these material narratives, with their inclusion and exclusion mechanisms. This Master's thesis therefore investigates the question of how the collection practices of the Swiss National Museum can be rethought from a post-migration perspective, and what consequences this might have for the institution.
