lm Rahmen eines eintägigen Sonderprogramms hat Carla Isler an der Kantonsschule Stadelhofen mit 20 Schülerinnen und zwei zusätzlichen Lehrpersonen lllustrationen zu Textausschnitten von Judith Butler, Susan Arndt und Stuart Hall erstellt. Daraus entstand ihre Masterarbeit Aktionsforschung; Illustrationen zu Machttheorien von Jugendlichen für Jugendliche. Das Interesse der Aktionsforschung lag dabei in der Frage: Was passiert, wenn Jugendliche für Jugendliche lllustrationen zu Machttheorien entwickeln? Diese Frage hat Carla Isler in ihrer Analyse auf drei Ebenen untersucht. Zuerst wurden die Dynamiken, welche durch die Auseinandersetzung und die Gestaltung der lllustrationen frei gesetzt wurden, untersucht, anschliessend das im Unterricht entstandene Material auf den Umgang mit Reproduktionen, Verschiebungen und Verlagerungen von Machtverhältnissen analysiert und am Schluss die illustrierten Textinhalte mit den Ausgangstexten verglichen.
Das Ausmass meines Vorhabens, die gymnasiale Wissensvermittlung zu aktualisieren und dafür Machttheorien zu thematisieren, wurde mir im Laufe meiner Arbeit erst so richtig bewusst: Die Durchführung und die Ergebnisse meiner Aktionsforschung haben gezeigt, dass die Verlagerung der Auseinandersetzung mit Machttheorien direkt im bildnerisch-gestalterischen Unterricht fruchtbar sein kann. Die eigenen, sowie die Handlungsmöglichkeiten von Jugendlichen mit Jugendlichen in anhaltenden Ungleichheitsverhältnissen zu erproben, war ein einflussreicher Bestandteil dieser Forschung. Das Erarbeiten der lllustrationen hat sich als geeignete Methode bewiesen, (eigene) hegemoniale Konstruktionen zu benennen. Das bedeutet, dass problematische Konstruktionen durch das lllustrieren nicht nur aus Distanz kritisiert wurden, sondern durch die gestalterische Umsetzung ermöglicht wurde, potenzielle Verschiebung auszuhandeln und mitzuformen. Ebenfalls wurde durch das eigene Erstellen die ,Gemachtheit' von Wissen näher gebracht. Die Auseinandersetzung mit den Jugendlichen hat gezeigt, dass eine Offenheit und Bereitschaft sich gemeinsam fit zu machen, um in den bestehenden Machtverhältnissen zu agierenagieren, die Rolle von Schüler_innen, aber auch von Lehrpersonen neu befragt.
During a one-day special programme led by Carla Isler at the Stadelhofen canton secondary school with 20 female pupils and two additional teachers, the girls were asked to illustrate extracts of texts by Judith Butler, Susan Arndt and Stuart Hall. This provided the material for a thesis entitled "Action research – illustrations of theories of power by young people for young people". The focus of this action research was on one specific question: What happens when young people create illustrations of theories of power for their peers? Carla Isler's analysis examined this question on three levels. First, I investigated the dynamics that are released by engaging with the material and creating the illustration; I then analysed the material created during the teaching session in terms of engagement with reproductions, shifts and changes in power relations; and finally I compared the text illustration content with the original texts.
My aim was to bring secondary school teaching up to date, and for that purpose to address the subject of theories of power, but it was only in the course of working on the thesis that I realized what a major undertaking this was. My experience while conducting my action research and the resulting conclusions showed that changes taking place in the manner of engagement with theories of power can provide direct benefits in fine arts teaching. An important part of this research was to explore my own action options, and those of young people with their peers, in the context of enduring inequality relations. Creating the illustrations proved to be an appropriate method for naming our (own) hegemonial structures. This means that the process of illustrating can do more than just critique the problematic structures externally, at a remove; this creative work also allowed negotiating potential changes and playing a part in forming them. Personal engagement in creative activity also highlighted the nature of knowledge as something we "make". My work with the young people showed that an attitude of openness and willingness to work together to equip ourselves to act within existing power relations asked new questions about the role of pupils, and also of teachers.
