“We The Best Feminists” is a delirious reaction to the social discourse about feminism and sexism and the way the subject is handled in the public. The available amount of material to that topic might be bigger than ever, the internet is packed with blogs, websites, videos and every conceivable opinion is represented.
Located in the utopian setting of a green planted underground Zarah and Lotti, the characters, welcome the audience to a world which coincides with the reality and in the same moment opens up other worlds: Standing on stage not only with our body but with our own name and our personal opinions and questions, but being some kind of artificial character in the same moment created a special atmosphere of authenticity and compulsion.
The twenty minute show is a potpourri of the material we found during the research and emotional and personal reactions; academic and emotional approach get mixed up and try to give an answer to the question how to oppose the repetitive endless discourses you have about feminism.
It is not the main aim to lecture but to issue a statement why it is still important to fight for feminism, it is a protest action against all the weirdest stereotypes there are about feminists. To follow that idea consequently we transform the stage to an occupied territory. As long as there is nothing changing we keep playing, keep protesting. As long as there is the need to hear the case the characters keep playing and thereby keep living. Till such time as audience stayed the show went on an on, giving the audience the possibility to participate, to press his or her point.
A whirring a was created always oscillating between joke, serious disputes, irony and party. To open up a political problem in such an atmosphere is often blamed to not be in earnest or to spoil the party. But in this case the space was connoted with the feministic agenda so this is what it required: A possibility space, a bullshit session, which was shaped by the two characters Zarah and Lotti.
