Ich baue mir eine Fallhöhe.
In meiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit bewege ich mich seit längerem an den Schnittstellen zwischen Bildender Kunst, Video und Performance/Bühnenkunst unter Einbezug von Elementen aus die Populärkultur. Insbesondere die Popmusik und ihre signifikanten Showeffekte, also die Verführungstechniken der Unterhaltungsindustrie, inspirieren mich immer wieder.
Eine wichtige Motivation für das Transdisziplinaritätsstudium ist mein Interesse am Theater. Das Theater als diskursiver künstlerischer Ort, an welchem gesellschaftlich relevante Fragen in Gegenwart und unter Einbezug des Publikums intensiv verhandelt werden. Ich nutze mein Masterprojekt, um mehr zu erfahren über Theatertechniken, Dramaturgie und Inszenierung, Konventionen, über künstlerische Authentizität und die vereinbarte Illusion.
Während des Studiums bin ich einem Forschungswerkzeug aus der Theoretischen Biologie begegnet: dem «Prisoner’s Dilemma-Model», das für die Kooperationsforschung entwickelt wurde. Ich habe die Wissenschaftler, die mit diesem Modell arbeiten, befragt, um mehr über diese Form von Erkenntnisgewinn zu erfahren. Diese radikal vereinfachte und nüchterne Berechnung von hochkomplexen Vorgängen hat mich provoziert. Die Frage wie, respektive ob, und falls nicht, weshalb Kooperation in unserer Gesellschaft funktioniert, ist allgegenwärtig und mächtig. Nichtsdestotrotz setze ich mich dieser Frage aus und entwickle mithilfe von verschiedenen Gesprächen mit Theaterexpert_innen und in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Musiker eine Performance für die Theaterbühne. Der Raster des Modells dient mir als Aktgeber. Ein Experiment.
I am building myself up for a fall.
In my artistic work, I have been operating for some time at the interface between visual art, video and performance/stage art, and also including elements from popular culture. In particular, I keep finding inspiration from pop music and its considerable "show" effects, i.e. the techniques that the entertainment industry uses to seduce us.
One important motivation for this transdisciplinary study is my interest in the theatre. The theatre as a place for artistic debate, in which present-day, socially relevant issues can be studied in detail with the involvement of an audience. I am using my Masters project to find out more about theatre techniques, dramaturgy and production, artistic conventions and authenticity and the suspension of disbelief.
During my studies, I came across a research tool that is used in theoretical biology: the "Prisoner’s Dilemma model" which was developed for the purposes of research into cooperation. I interviewed scientists working with this model to find out more about this way of obtaining findings. I was fascinated by this radically simplified and matter-of-fact calculation of highly complex processes. The question of how, or if, cooperation works in our society, and if it doesn't, why not, is universal and weighty. Undaunted, I have asked myself this question and am developing a production for the theatre, with the help of various conversations with theatre experts and in partnership with a musician. I am using the matrix from the model as a basis. It's an experiment.
