«Therese & Thomas» ist eine Videoinstallation, die eine Brücke zwischen Performance und Kino baut. Vier Leinwände für 16 Szenen und in der Mitte der/die PerformerInnen. Eine nicht virtuelle 360°-Erfahrung, die es uns ermöglicht, in der Zeit und von Kontinent zu Kontinent zu reisen.
Therese und Thomas sind «ein moderner Adam und eine moderne Eva». Aus dem Paradies vertrieben, sucht jeder das Glück im andern. Aus diesem Grund müssen sie sich ihren inneren Widersprüchen und äusseren Unterschieden stellen.
Männlich und weiblich, Europa & Afrika, Vergangenheit & Gegenwart sind Konzepte, die zwischen ihnen als unsichtbare Grenzen wachsen, Konzepte, die ihnen Identität verleihen und sie gleichzeitig zu Gefangenen macht.
Ausgangspunkt bildet ein Gemälde aus dem 19. Jahrhundert – «Das Floss der Medusa» von Géricault, 1819. Therese & Thomas sind Figuren aus dem Gemälde, die eine Zeitreise gemacht haben und sich wieder begegnen, weit weg und auch im Hier und Jetzt, wobei sie chronologische und geografische Grenzen auflösen.
Eine mythologische Erzählung, in welcher das Ende der Anfang ist.
“Therese & Thomas” is a video installation bridging performance and cinema. Four screens for 16 scenes and in the centre: the performer(s). A non-virtual 360° experience that will make us travel through time and across continents.
Therese and Thomas are a contemporary Adam and Eve. Expelled from paradise, they search for happiness in each other. For this they have to face their inner contradictions and outer differences.
Masculine & feminine, Europe & Africa, past & present are concepts that will grow between them as invisible borders; concepts that give them identity and at the same time imprison them.
Using as a starting point a painting from the XIX (“The Raft of the Méduse” by Géricault, 1819), Therese & Thomas are characters out of the painting that have travelled through time and meet again, far away and also here, in the now, dissolving chronological and geographical borders.
A mythological tale in which the end is the beginning.
