Pregnancy refers to the body, and sociability are subject to individual change. Consequently, terms such as "developmental impulse,” "critical life event" or even "crisis" are used in relation to pregnancy (Wimmer-Puchinger, 1992). In addition, there are other aggravating situations such as the state of "migration.” This represents an additional psychosocial stress for those affected. The reason being, migration is associated with psychosocial stress factors, which can have an impact on the mental health and subjective well-being of the mother. The current topicality is underlined by the fact that around one third of women giving birth in Switzerland have a migration background (Hermann, 2013). Here, as proven in various studies already available, music therapy can:
− support the acculturation process of women with a migration background;
− become a "catalyst" for the new mother role.
This paper aims to present a proposal for a music therapy treatment option for pregnant women with a migration background. Based on special challenges and excessive demands that mothers have to face, different methods and their applications are illustrated as well as clarified by means of practical examples.
