Die Performance war Teil des Festivals Tanz und Performance der Ausstellungsreihe Feminine Futures - The Membrane of The Dream & The Membrane of The Real, welche im Museum Langmatt in Baden stattfand.
Two students in the Master of Art Education, Teaching and Learning programme, Ida Sons and Miriam Strauss, worked with a group of ZHdK students and others to realize the Restaging Leonce and Lena project at Museum Langmatt, Baden. "Restaging Leonce and Lena" was a performative restaging of a photograph taken of the play "Leonce and Lena" by Georgette Boner in 1926. The performance was part of the Dance and Performance Festival in the Feminine Futures – The Membrane of The Dream & The Membrane of The Real exhibition series held at Museum Langmatt in Baden.
The "Restaging Leonce and Lena" performance refers to a theatrical performance in 1926, directed by Georgette Boner, a relation of the Browns, and in which Harry Brown played the role of the court chaplain. As a restaging of a self-staged image, the project creates a "tableau vivant" replicating a group photo of the theatre company, from the Brown family archive. Restaging is a process to be undertaken as a permanently repeated cycle of approximation, failure and a renewed attempt at approximation. Harry Brown's and Georgette Boner's affinity with cross-dressing, as a deviation from the bourgeois industrial milieu of the Brown family, is also addressed, to attempt a playful visualization of gender roles in the photo with interchanges of costumes and actions, and to integrate these into a performative structure.
