„Choreographing the Public: Rolling Rooms“ is Hilla Toony Navok’s first solo show in Switzerland. It is the seventh in a series of a dozen of events and exhibitions that focus on creating a language of movement that connects various elements present in the gallery space: the objects, the artist’s presence, the text, the audience and its actions. Navok presents a new body of works, specifically designed to fit the OnCurating project space in Zurich.
Navok’s works begin with associative impressions she gathers as she roams the streets of Tel Aviv, as well as other towns in Israel’s peripheral areas. She peeps into residential spaces and commercial buildings, discovering moments of design that expose the gap between dreams and the longing for style and good taste, and their improvised, incomplete realization. Then she re-organizes those desires and gaps into abstract, strange-looking and timeless sculptural units.
In her work, Navok resonates canonical movements in art history and modern design, and embarks on an examination of Israeli Modernism in the genre’s original habitat. The visual similarity between her work and Concrete art, which took source in Zurich, is apparent to the local viewer. The influence of De Stijl is also recognizable. The colorfulness of iconic objects and the two-dimensionality of the compositions acquire volume and mass when the artist uses plain, Israeli-made utensils and materials to decode the visual reality in which she lives and works. Navok undermines the conventional perception of the materials and aesthetics she deploys, and re-exposes for our benefit qualities and traces of abstract modernism, so deeply embedded in our everyday environment that they had disappeared from view.
Navok’s tenderly presented sculptures and installations are positioned with precision, inviting the viewer to enter a poetic playground. However, their visual naiveté raises questions. Enclosed or not, all of the sculptures contain an opening into a small space, sometimes allowing one viewer to step in. The quasi-intimate encounter with familiar elements brings to the surface complexities regarding consumption, our attitude towards cleanliness and hygiene, and the politics behind the human desire for order and organization.
Hilla Toony Navok
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1974, where she currently lives and works.
Navok graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from Bezalel Academy in 2009. She had solo exhibitions at various venues, including the Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Atelier Shemi, Kibbutz Cabri and KM gallery, Berlin. Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in venues such as Neues Museum in Weimar, Ashdod Museum of Art, Bat Yam Museum of Modern Art, Herzliya Museum of Art, and Rockefeller Archaeological Museum, the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
She received several awards, including the Beatrice Kolliner Prize for a Young Israeli Artist, Israel Museum (2018), and participated in several residencies including The Fountainhead in Miami, AIR Paradise in Matsudo, Japan, Meet Factory in Prague and Artport residency program in Tel Aviv.

Participation biases will be the subject of this screening, as they embody glimpses into imperfection, creative strategies of survival, to face the condition of „participating“ as new moral drive. For then, they carry lightness, irony, and a first-hand look at authentic humanity.
The shorts explore stories of people and their grand design to fit in or to withdraw from this alternative hierarchy of needs. Their plots interlace with performative narration, sense of humor, and visual atmospheres, with the purpose of swiftly glancing at an exquisitely human way of dealing with belongingness.
Whether listening to Ayn Rand latest uncanny predictions, or challenging European border control at Ceuta, this short cinematic trip will unfold between a grotesque sequence of human features, and the deck of a cruise ship. Pleasantly floating along a stream of polonaise bangers or in the sacred space of a swimming hall. Through the richness of the novels and the lyric of the images, it serves as an attempt to oppose choral practices to the poignant and universal interrogative of how we cope.
Whilst the phenomenon of participation is not entirely new, two decades of neoliberalism fostered the need of reacting as a community and triggered the proliferation of new forms of collective behaviors. Participative policies being tested, brought forward, and experienced, call attention to participative democracy, participative management, urbanism, agriculture, or participatory art with its demand for public entanglement and viewer activation. This globalized scenario of commonality changes, in some measure, the set of rules and establishes a model, where the matrix of relationships and connections becomes crucial. Pursuing different forms of social engagement grows into a necessary practice in daily life, in order to confront and reject the dissolution, the dislocation, or the conflagration of community (Nancy). Taken to the extreme, participation appears like the only expedient allowing individuals to converge into this newly shaped, democratic experience of existence. But under the pressure of such high expectations, also this cherished dictate gets sometimes out of hand.
Social gray areas emerge, in which participation becomes the final need for fulfilment. Staged comedies for social acceptance, loudly fought with weapons of hilarious mass consumerism or decadent cult of the image. But also, darker areas are revealed. Political borders, neutral zones of humans traffic, geographic obstacle to intimacy, where participation is unwanted, disapproved. Areas of exclusion or compelled inclusion, where curiously devoted behaviors or ancestral human fears, clash with the established routine of everyday acceptance. Queerness or disappearance, gentrification or mental illness, boosted identity or mainstream religiousness as borderline bugs cracking the surface of participation desire. In reality expanded social spaces where human interactions reach unexpected and inspirational forms. And of those spaces of interaction we would like to talk, as an inevitable presence. “About the real consequences, intervention, creative possibilities and responsibilities of intra-acting within and as part of the world “. - Interkultureller Austausch und soziopolitische Aspekte des Chorsingens
Methoden:
Durch die Kontaktaufnahme zu Chören, Personen, Institutionen und Festivals in Südafrika werden durch gemeinsame Workshops, Auftritte und Konzerte ein intensiver Austausch, musikalische Horizonterweiterungen und spannende Begegnungen ermöglicht. Im Vordergrund stehen dabei durch das gemeinsame Singen Partizipation, die bleibende Prägung für die eigene Musikpraxis, entwicklungspolitische Bildungsarbeit und die Erweiterung des ZHdK-Netzwerkes.
Zielsetzung:
Kennenlernen der vielfältigen Chorkultur Südafrikas sowie ein interkultureller Austausch mit Chören, Institutionen und Persönlichkeiten der Chorleitungsszene.
Erkenntnisgewinn aus alternativen soziopolitischen Konzepten des Chorgesangs für die eigene Musikpraxis (Chancengleichheit, soziale Aspekte, Gemeinschaft vs. elitärer Auswahl etc.).
Erlernen neuer Fertigkeiten durch gemeinsam durchgeführte Proben, Workshops, Konzerte und Austauschrunden.
Studierende lernen den interkulturellen Austausch als gesellschaftlichen und beruflichen Mehrwert kennen und erwerben dadurch weitere Qualifikationen, die einer wachsenden europäischen und globalen Vernetzung gerecht werden.
Schlussfolgerung:
Die Erfahrungen der Studienreise ermöglichen einen befruchtenden Austausch zu Fragen der stilistisch adäquaten Stimmarbeit, -pflege und -bildung und deren pädagogischer Vermittlung.
Die Studienreise bietet die Chance, Musik als transkulturelles Phänomen zu verstehen, das uns ermöglicht, die Vielfalt der Musikwelten über die Wahrnehmung des Fremden in uns zu erschliessen. Gleichermassen geht es um Geschlechtergleichstellung, die Vermittlung einer Kultur des Friedens, der Gewaltlosigkeit, um Weltbürgerschaft, die Wertschätzung kultureller Vielfalt und den Beitrag der Kultur zu nachhaltiger Entwicklung. Gerade das Medium Chor ist für die Vermittlung dieser Werte prädestiniert.

- «Circularium» ist eine Szenografie im Rundbau mit Licht-, Musik-, Gesang- und Tanz-Elementen. Das Runde, Zirkuläre, in sich Geschlossene, das Wiederkehrende, die damit verbundenen Geometrien, Klang- und Lichtfarben bilden die Grundlage von Circularium.
Die Grundlage des Bühnenbildes ist eine Mischung aus dem vorhandenen Ort und dessem historischen Hintergrund, also dem Kreuzgewölbe und dessen Atmosphäre, dem Bauchigen, Runden, Wiederkehrenden und dem 16. Jahrhundert, den Entstehungsjahren des Munots.
Hier könnte viel hineininterpretiert werden. Wie Da Vincis Erfindung der Drehbühne oder in den Entwurf einer Zirkularbefestigung durch Albrecht Dürer. Solche Fantasien werden dem Publikum überlassen, welches mit „Circularium“ vielleicht einen kleinen Ort zum Träumen findet. Ich habe die vorhandenen Gestaltungselemente übernommen und diese durch Licht und Bewegung im Raum verstärkt. Einige zusätzliche Elemente wurden bewusst hinzugefügt um den Raumeindruck zu verstärken und abzurunden.

I am Lucie Froehlich, and was born in France in 2003. Since the age of 12, I studied ballet in Montreal, Canada. During Covid, I had the strong need to express myself differently. This interest led me to move to Zurich and complete my bachelor in Contemporary Dance at ZHdK. Dance allows me to connect with myself by the expression of emotions and mind through the body. I have spent the last year as an intern at Theater Plauen-Zwickau. I am excited to keep growing as an artist and the opportunities the future holds.
DIPLOMAPROJECT
It is their closed doors and private language that alienate people, a form of living death occupies our lives. The isolation and inability we have to communicate with each other testify of the society we live in. Closed Doors approaches the loneliness we bear in difficult times is harder than the emotions themselves.

- Der technische und digitale Wandel, die gesellschaftlichen und demografischen Entwicklungen stellen auch Spitäler vor komplexe Problemstellungen. In ihren Rollen als Projektleiterin, Projektportfoliomanagerin und strategische Designerin am Spital Bülach untersucht die Autorin, wie sie Fachpersonen am besten aktivieren und vernetzen kann, um in gemeinsamen Projekten Veränderungen herbeizuführen. Diese Arbeit am und im System kennzeichnet sich nämlich durch interdisziplinäre Teams, divergierende Organisationskulturen und ein hohes Mass an Komplexität. In drei realen Praxisbeispielen («Portfoliomanagement», «Betten», «Geburtshilfe») wendet die Autorin zahlreiche designstrategische Interventionen an und zeigt, wie sich Kollaboration, Vernetzung und Co-Kreation mit Methoden des strategischen Designs bestmöglich facilitieren lassen. Als Resultat präsentiert die Autorin ein Inspirationssheet für Co-Kreation-Impulse.

- Die «Vision der Schweizer Armee» ist ein auf langfristige Wirkung ausgerichteter Veränderungsprozess, der das Ziel hat, die Armee und die Militärverwaltung auf die zukünftigen Bedrohungen in einem sich vielfältig verändernden Umfeld auszurichten und die Positionierung der Armee als Institution und als Arbeitgeber weiter zu verbessern. Zur Umsetzung zählt die Entwicklung neuer Arbeitsplatzmodelle, die ein ortsunabhängiges Arbeiten und den Austausch zwischen Fach- und Organisationsgruppen ermöglichen könnten. Co-Working-Spaces würden die Vernetzung zwischen den Organisationseinheiten unterstützen und die Kosten senken. Sie würden darüber hinaus das Bedürfnis nach flexiblen Arbeitsorten und Treffpunkten von Angestellten des Bundes und Milizangehörigen der Armee erfüllen. Diese Treffpunkte ermöglichen den Austausch mit der Bevölkerung und bekräftigen die Positionierung der Gesamtorganisation als inklusiver Austausch-, Ausbildungs-, und Arbeitsort im Sinne der Vision und Strategie Gruppe Verteidigung und Schweizer Armee. Mit der hier vorliegenden Arbeit legt der Autor das entsprechende Konzept für derartige Co-Working-Spaces vor.

Vor allem diese Personengruppen sind es, die bei der Verankerung von agilen und kreativen Denk- und Arbeitsweisen enabelt werden müssen, um VUCA nachhaltig zu begegnen. Mit dem Ziel, sich als freischaffende strategische Beraterin zu positionieren, nähert sie sich ihrem eigenen Beratungskonzept im Verlauf dieser Arbeit in drei Etappen: in Interviews mit Businesspartner:innen entwickelt sie ein Gespür für die Managementebene, in Interventionen mit Vertreter:innen der jungen Generation erspürt sie deren Puls und Nöte und in einen Design-Thinking-Workshop mit dem Team eines Architekturbüros erprobt sie die Anwendung ihres Coachings. Als Resultat legt sie ihr eigenes Coachingprofil vor.

CV/Biografie
Colin, geboren in Los Angeles und zweisprachig aufgewachsen in Wien, sammelte erste Bühnenerfahrungen im Jugend Ensemble des Vienna English Theatre und der Jungen Burg. Nach drei Semestern Philosophiestudium an der Universität Wien folgte 2020 seine Schauspielausbildung an der ZHdK. In Eigenarbeiten erforscht er Themen wie Sterblichkeit, Freier Wille und Bewusstsein, mit dem Ziel, philosophische Inhalte emotional zugänglich zu machen. Aktuell absolviert er seinen Master an der Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Diese Arbeit reflektiert über das menschliche Bewusstsein und untersucht, wie wir unsere Wirklichkeit in Erzählstrukturen einfassen. Sie betrachtet Katharsis als einen Prozess der Befreiung von den selbstgeschaffenen Narrativen durch die Begegnung mit dem Unbekannten und letztendlich mit der eigenen Vergänglichkeit.

- The presented work is located in the context of a public Swiss research funding agency, where the author is employed as a business analyst. She explores how the design thinking approach can improve collaboration between IT and other teams throughout the 400 employees, since the current siloed working environment has become a major barrier to efficient communication and collaboration during the process of digital transformation. In this context, the misalignments between the IT department and the other departments hamper the solutions and services offered by IT to the rest of the organization, leaving both parties dissatisfied. In three interventions undertaken by the author, the positive impact of discussions is shown, as is the need for a new collaborative space. Based on her findings, she proposes a workshop format to increase employees active participation in the ongoing cultural change of their company.

Eine Ausstellung mit Beiträgen von Master- und Bachelor Fine Arts-Studierenden des Departements Kunst & Medien der ZHdK.
Geologisch ist eine "Einsturzsenke" definiert als ein Senkloch, das aus dem lokalen Zusammenbruch einer Höhle resultiert, die durch Lösung und Erosion vergrößert wurde. Sowohl natürliche als auch künstliche Prozesse können die Ursache sein. Ein Zusammenbruch deutet jedoch auf eine parallele Realität hin, die für unsere Handlungen empfindlich ist oder von ihnen abhängt. Collapse Sink

An open call exhibition with contributions by MFA & BFA students from the Department of Art & Media, ZHdK.
Geologically a “collapse sink” is defined as a sink hole resulting from local collapse of a cavern that has been enlarged by solution and erosion. Both natural or artificial processes can be the cause. A collapse however points to a parallel reality sensitive to, or depending on, our actions. The physical dynamics and spatial constellation of a collapse sink can acquire multiple meanings: dumpsite, dark side, gate to another sphere, virtuality, source of criticism, etc.
