Warschau - Martas Welt», «3.
‘EXHAUSTED’ presents a collection of micro aggressions that the artist has encountered throughout their life. In their attempt to unveil a space of vulnerability, the artist chose to focus on personal lived experience, however they are aware of their very specific socio-political situation as not being the most marginalised. The artwork aims to showcase how life journeys varying from what is considered the norm, are often invalidated or ignored. Furthermore, the artist opens up about their emotions as a way of reflecting upon the consequences such aggressions can cause an individual.
The thesis is dealing with the question of improvements toward institutionalizing migration history(ies) in Germany and the motivation behind it. (DOMiD), being the most promising organization in the country surely has a paramount role in this process. But how is the atmosphere in Germany, when it comes to representing migrations and what kind of practices are there to collect materials or data for the exhibitions being organized?
What is a migration museum and what are the main characteristics and challenges of these museums? These questions generated the second pillar of the thesis developing parallel, from worldwide examples, European examples and all the way up to the situation in Germany. In this context the thesis refers to the Ellis Island National Museum of Migration in New York and Cité National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration (CNHI)in Paris, which are in dialog with each other and ultimately compares CNHI with the Central Museum of Migration to be constructed in Cologne.

A paradigm shift is happening in exhibition making that centers the rethinking of the (para)curatorial, educational and the institutional. Exhibitions are leaving their traditional locations in museums to instead take place at festivals and in clubs, thus blurring the line between event and exhibition. In the view of this thesis, events taking place in alternative exhibition settings have the potential to be constructed as radical democratic spaces. This thesis explores art education and curating as practices that contribute towards breaking the conventions of how and where art is staged and mediated. Through both a literature review and case study analysis of three key events in alternative exhibition settings, practices that act on and influence democratic processes are examined. The central concluding argument is that hybrid curatorial and educational practices create space for transformation, negotiation, community-building, and potentially inclusive and democratic futures through the generation of alternative forms of knowledge, exchange and participation.
This thesis analyses and investigates possible strategies in designing sound for a science fiction film. I have studied various sonic approaches from the likes of Delia Derbyshire and Walter Murch, whose innovative methods have provided an invaluable reference for applying a similar ethic to sound on the film Planet Hora, practical examples of which I will outline in greater detail. The context of my research has its basis in the complex and continuous process of listening and reciprocity, that which is shaped by circumstance or a sonic landscape that expands and extends beyond merely the functional aspects of sound design. This creates an evolving multiplicity of possible worlds, temporal spaces and unexpected occurrences from which I can speculate, extract, reconstruct and articulate a coherent and creative sonic vision. I will highlight practical compositional and sound design examples from Planet Hora. I will also discuss more subjective modes of creation in my own personal practice and how this relates to sonic interpretation and aesthetical choices. The central motivation of this research is two-fold, to propose a non-linear paradigm for thinking about sound in film and to advocate for a more intersectional methodology in sound creation.
BIOGRAPHY
I'm Victor Mendes, a Brazilian dancer and performer based in Zürich. My love for dance began with classical training and evolved into a passion for diverse forms of expression. I studied contemporary dance at the Ballet Junior de Genève and have been working with renowned artists across Europe. Now, as a freelance dancer, rehearsal director, choreographer assistant, drag performer and a sickening b*tch, I’m exploring new artistic avenues and recently earned an MA in Teaching and Coaching Professional Dancers.
DIPLOMAPROJECT
Exploring the world of drag performance and its intersection with dance education, this study is all about giving dance students an extra boost of empowerment. It dives into how embracing the boldness of drag can seriously amp up self-confidence, shape personal identity, and set free new levels of expression. This isn't just about theory; it's packed with real-life examples and hands-on research to tackle the nitty-gritty challenges, think through the ethics, and craft teaching methods that make everyone feel welcome and charged up to dance their hearts out.
