Berichte von Augenzeugen sind bekannt für ihre Ungenauigkeit. Doch es gibt einen vollkommen ehrenwerten, neurologischen Mechanismus dahinter. Unser Gehirn ist auf der Suche nach Mustern. Wir suchen Ähnlichkeiten.
Deshalb überlagern wir das, was wir tatsächlich sehen mit dem, was wir aufgrund von visuellen Anhaltspunkten erwarten.
Im Laufe der Zeit verstärkt die Erinnerung dies mit weiteren Einzelheiten, die nicht mit dem übereinstimmen, was wir sahen, sondern mit dem, was wir nach Angabe unseres Gehirns gesehen haben müssen.
