- Henry is a single-player narrative adventure video game with occasional platforming mechanics, being developed by an indie studio called LuLuLu from Zurich. The studio's goal is to produce a playable prototype that can be shown at game conventions in order to attract publishers. To achieve this, the game should feature an adaptive music system, which should serve as a foundation for the further production. The system is supposed to improve the overall gaming experience and it has to be realisable within the given production time of three months.
The aim of this thesis is to develop and explore different types of adaptive music systems in order to gain more knowledge about their implementation techniques but also to understand, which system offers which possibilities and what kind of gameplay mechanics can be linked to the system. Another goal of this work is to distinguish between different dynamic audio terms in the context of game audio. Thus, dynamic, interactive, adaptive, generative and procedural audio are being discussed.
In the main part of the thesis, the various adaptive systems, that have been developed, are introduced. Some of them have been tested with the help of gameplay videos, while others have been implemented directly with FMOD and Unity. Each system is analysed for its future potential and its adaptability. Thereby, the complexity of the individual systems and the game mechanics they can be connected to, are estimated. The work also outlines the feedback from the developers and what kind of improvements to the system could be made.
The resulting adaptive system has, on the one hand, the ability to adapt to the player's progress and, on the other hand, it can adapt to game actions that are detached from any progress. Horizontal and vertical adaptive composing techniques are an integral part of the system and therefore contribute to the variability of the music. Among other over-complex systems, this one has prevailed because both actions are part of the core mechanics of the game. One of the main findings of the thesis is that through this close linkage to the core game mechanics, the system can adapt very well to additional levels in the future.
This thesis can serve as a useful resource if one is interested in learning about adaptive music systems and their implementation with FMOD and Unity. Also, the explanation of the different dynamic audio terminologies, in the theoretical part of the thesis, can be a help to get an overview in this topic.
The project was realized during an exchange at the Sound in New Media department at the Media Lab of Aalto University Finland under supervision of Antti Ikonen.

- My Master project is based on my research how different learning styles connect to understanding movement and movement sequences. The aim is to find memory hooks that link learning types to specific memorizing methods, in order to help dancers recall choreography and work in a more sustainable way. As a result, the „Marking Efficiently“ method will be developed, including memory hooks, visualization and an adjustable regulation of the use of energy. This will possibly help dancers to build a longer concentration span, learn choreography in an easier way and minimize the problem of overworked bodies.

- EMP Projekt Sing & Spring im Rahmen des SKJF 22
Auch in den Winterthurer Primarschulen wird gesungen! Dieser «Singfrühling» möchte das Singen in den Winterthurer Schulen nachhaltig fördern und anregen. An diesem Projekt im Rahmen des SKJF 22 nehmen 22 Klassen aus acht Schulhäusern in Chorteams teil. In Workshops unter der Leitung von Studierenden und Dozierenden des MA Elementare Musikpädagogik aus dem Profil Musik und Bewegung/Schulmusik der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ZHdK. Die 390 Schülerinnen und Schüler und ihre Lehrpersonen erarbeiten unter der Leitung der EMP Studierenden innerhalb des regulären Schulbetriebs ein gemeinsames Repertoire aus Liedern, Kanons und Songs. Das Projekt entstand in Zusammenarbeit der Jugendmusikschule Winterthur, der Stadt Winterthur, der ZHdK und der Festivalleitung des SKJF 22. In Coproduktion mit Tonmeisterstudierenden der ZHdK entstanden Playbacks und Singalongs mit den 16 Liedern, die den singenden Schulklassen zur Vorbereitung dienten. Das Programm wird von einer professionellen Band begleitet und gelangt am Dienstag 24. Mai 2022 um 18.30 Uhr auf der grossen Festivalbühne in der Eulachhalle als gemeinsames Abschlusskonzert zur Aufführung. Das Konzert ist öffentlich. Türöffnung 18.15 Uhr, Eintritt frei.
Mittlerweile sind die 8 Studierenden jeden Dienstagmorgen fleissig dran, die Lieder im Tandem mit ihren insgesamt 8 Singteams in den acht Winterthurer Schulhäusern einzustudieren. Am 24. Mai 2022 um 18.30h gibt es ein Konzert mit 410 Kindern und Lehrpersonen in der Eulachhalle, Bandprobe und Hauptprobe, in welchen die Studierenden die Singleitung der Lieder übernehmen, sind am Nachmittag des 24.Mai in Winterthur.
Am Donnerstag, 26.5. beginnt das 8. Schweizer Kinder- und Jugendchorfestival und bis und mit Samstagnacht gibt es zahlreiche tolle Kinder und Jugendchorkonzerte in der ganzen Stadt Winterthur.

- Die Allianz Pascale Schreibmüller wird jeweils von etwas affiziert, das ihren Performances voraus geht und sie richtungsweisend sammeln lässt. Sie sammelt Stimmen, Bücher, Vinyl, Textschnipsel und anderes, und übt mit ihnen Erzählungen ein. Innerhalb dieser Arbeiten werden die Quellen wirkmächtig und gehen durch-einander über und schreiben sich ein; in die Arbeiten selbst; in die Allianz und in-einander. Die Allianz erkennt sich durch die Klänge und die Stimmen innerhalb der Erzählungen neu, indem diese wie ein Echo durch den Äther zu ihr zurückkehren. Eine Resonanz, deren Wahrnehmung nicht nur ihre eigene Verkörperlichung subjektiviert, sondern auch die der Quellen und der Rezipient*innen. Die verschiedenen Körper werden zum Ort der Verwebung. Da sich die Allianz als Polyphonie versteht und die durch sie verwendeten Quellen als teilhabend, repräsentieren die Arbeiten weit mehr als die Subjektkonstitution Pascale Schreibmüller. Mit der Geste des Zeigens macht sie die Quellen visuell erfahrbar und gibt ihnen Form und Gewicht und mit der Geste des Klangs macht sie die Quellen hörbar und lässt sie zu Transmittern von Wissen, Affekten und Resonanzen werden. Die Performances können als Quellkörper verstanden werden. Sie repräsentieren einen prozesshaften, situierten Wissensraum, der ereignishaft bleibt und Raum und Zeit nicht linear durchquert. Die Allianz übernimmt grundsätzlich die Verantwortung dafür, wie sie Quellen benützt, welche Quellen sie zeigt und wie sie sie dramaturgisch zusammenfügt. Das Sammeln der Quellen verhilft ihr zu gesellschaftskritischen Analysen und eröffnet ihr eine vertiefte Reflexion der Wissensproduktion. Scas schreib- und soundmühle erlaubt, Textuelles und Klangliches immer wieder neu zu mühlen und kann somit auch als kontingenter Verhandlungs- und Bearbeitungsraum verstanden werden.

- In dieser Bühnenadaption verarbeiten die Studierenden Emanuel Steffen (Komposition für Film, Theater und Medien) und Leo Wildi (Tonmeister) die Fluchtgeschichte von Joseph Schmidt basierend auf dem Roman "Der Sänger" des Schweizer Schriftstellers Lukas Hartmann zu einem Singspiel.
Die Zuschauer:innen werden mit Musik, Gesang und Theater zu verschiedenen Etappen der Flucht des Sängers geführt. Dabei wird die schwierige Situation in der Schweiz während des Zweiten Weltkriegs beleuchtet, welche einerseits von strikter Flüchtlingspolitik und andererseits von Solidarität gegenüber den Flüchtlingen geprägt war. Mit neuen Kompositionen lassen sie Joseph Schmidt wieder singen.
