Seh Yun Kim completed her education at the Sunhwa Arts School in Seoul and at the Kirov Academy of Washington D.C. She is a gold medalist at the Prague and Luxembourg competitions and was awarded the 2002 Prima Ballerina Prize by the Korea Ballet Association and was awarded the 2011 <Innovative Artist> award by the LIG Arts Foundation.
She started her career at the Universal Ballet Company in Seoul, where she was a principal dancer from 1998 to 2003. From 2004 to 2007 she danced under Heinz Spoerli as a soloist and principal dancer at the Zurich Ballet. From 2007 to 2011 she was second soloist at Het National Ballet in Amsterdam and then guest soloist again at Ballet Zurich for ten years. From 2012 to 2018 she was First Principal Dancer at the Compania Nacional de Danza in Madrid.
She has danced majority of the classical ballets such as Swan lake, Giselle, DonQ and Nut Cracker as a principal dancer as well as a number of roles by renowned choreographers such as Kylian, Spoerli, van Manen, Petit, Duato, Pastor, Schlapfer and Scholz.
She created her first choreography <Beethoven Frieze> in 2007 for the International Ballet Star Gala in Seoul. In 2011 <Flying Lesson> was commissioned by the LIG Arts Foundation. In 2017 she was invited as a choreographer to the 7th Ballet Festival Korea in Seoul and created 'Death Song>, <Dott> was performed as part of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. For de Compania Nacional de Danza in Madrid she created <Triple Bach>, which was performed at the 14th Busan International Dance Festival and at the 8th Ballet Festival Korea in Seoul.
In 2019 she created <Hansel and Gretel> and was invited as a faculty member in the summer intensive program at the University of Utah to direct <Paquita> under the direction of former Mariinsky Theters Artistic Director Oleg Vinogradov. She also created the piece <Angels of Beethoven> for the Zurich Dance Academy. In 2020 she created <Bolero: Cruce de Paseos> for the graduates of the Tanz Akademie Zurich and <Requiem: Archangel> for the Ballet Festival Korea. In the same year, she also began a master's degree in dance (choreography) at the Zurich University of the Arts.
Continuing with her journey as a choreographer in 2021, she created <Hello, Ludwig> for the Zurich Dance Academy and <Mirrors Inside> as a part of collaboration project, ‘Raw 2.0’ with Theatre St. Gallant and the Zurich University of the Arts.
Recently, she was invited to South Korea to create <Chica Chica>, commissioned by Mapo Art Foundtion, premiered on the 25th of March that was warmly received by the audiences and the critics.
