Vessels
The technology of the sounding vessel dates back to the ancient Greeks .
Their use of the resonating qualities of the vases was employed to amplify
the actors’ voices in open air theatres.
The Romans then appropriated the vases and placed them in their temples.
By placing them inside a closed architecture, the vases changed their physical
property and function, from resonating apparatuses to absorbing apparatuses.
In the Christian churches these sounding vessels were used throughout the Middle Age. Space
Every room is characterized by specific dominant resonance frequencies, in which their hierarchy is defined by the room’s structure.
The specific resonances depend on parameters such as the dimension of the room,
its materials, the room climate and the listener’s position.
Each of the instruments’ bodies resonate in a different way to gain their specific volume. Composition
You can hear:
- The sounds of the "Syrian Expat Orchestra" tuning their instruments before their concert, recorded last year in Athens.
- Internal feedback modulation
- The sine wave of a room resonance frequency
- The frequencies of the vessels start to vibrate, while turning on the potter’s wheel
