«3 catasthrophes I happily survived» befasst sich mit drei einschneidenden Ereignissen in meinem Leben, die ich aus irgendeinem glücklichen Umstand überlebt habe: das Erdbeben in Mexiko 1985, den Bombenanschlag in London 2005 und die Nuklearkatastrophe von Fukushima 2001.
Diese Erlebnisse werden in drei bespielten Installationen für den Besucher erfahrbar: Eine ruckelnde Waschmaschine bringt eine Miniaturstadt erdbebengleich zum Einstürzen; mit Sound und Video erzähle ich von den acht Minuten, die mir in London das Leben retteten; und die dritte Installation führt uns mitten in den Reaktor des Kernkraftwerks in Fukushima.
3 Catastrophes I Happily Survived deals with three cataclysmic events in my life, which by good fortune I survived: the Mexican earthquake in 1985, the 2005 bomb attacks in London, and the nuclear disaster of Fukushima in 2001.
These experiences are now experienced by the spectator in the form of three dramatized installations: a washing machine rocking on its base brings a miniature city crashing down, as if in an earthquake; with sound and video, I tell the story of those eight minutes that saved my life in London; and the third installation takes us into the heart of the reactor at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima.
