- Raumgleiter was recently allowed to tell part of the story of Shoppi Tivoli in a Christmas coat. The result is a story of a varied sleigh ride on Santa's flying spare sleigh, from the North Pole to Shoppi Tivoli. The result is a 360°(VR) film experience with 3D sound on a moving motion platform. From shots of the lively Shoppi Tivoli Santa in front of green screen, 3D sound and music composition, programming of the control panel to virtual terraforming and city building, we have drawn from the full.
I had a chance to take care of location sound, sound design, implementation as well as mix.

- “adero is being created to autonomously deliver a broad range of goods in indoor environments, combining state of the art technology with a simple, yet appealing design.”
adero was a focus project at ETH Zurich in cooperation with ZHdK for students in their final year of undergraduate studies. I was working in a close collabpration with students from Interaction Design.
I had a chance to suport the project by developing a concept and creating the sound design for interactions of the robot.
It was a great journey to find adero´s voice.

- “Holy Black Project” is building on a collaborative work which began during the Transcultural Collaboration Programm 2017 between art students from Zürich and Hong Kong. This experience has made significant impact on me on a personal as well as artistic level and it has resonated within others as well, unveiling itself as a creative medium to explore and communicate.The first iteration of this project culminated with the performance of “Dull Boy Jack” in Hong Kong CFXXX. The collaboration with artists evolved from this piece and the concept of the next iteration “Enlightenment” has been born by integrating a film as a fulcrum for a musical and dance performance. “Enlightenment” was the first of the series of works where the tabu topics are being contemplated. It addresses the actual topics on the level of art, education, everyday life and the social future. The aim is to work on the humanitarian issues through collaborative, inter-disciplinary artistic approach. It should also allow to create a new form of dialogue between the different fields.
The performance is divided into parts where live music, dance and film interplay with each other. The auditive side of the performance is created through surround -live- electronic soundscape (12.1) and composed- improvised music played with live acoustic instruments and electronics. The movie will be projected on multiple surfaces. At first, there is no noticeable interaction between live music and the plot of the movie, but after short time the music starts to direct the plot of the movie and short after the visual part affects the music as well. The interplay between realities gets stronger to the point that picture of the musicians is immersing into the picture of the movie (programmed with Max MSP). The audience is being pulled into the this virtual-real state through the surround visual-audible space.

- Synopsis: Bigna, 29, ist Tsunami-Forscherin und steht kurz davor, eine neue Stelle in Chile anzutreten. Sie interessiert sich mehr für Zahlen als für Menschen. Sexuelle Befriedigung findet sie in anonymen Rollenspielen mit Fremden. Ihre Regel lautet: Einmal und nie wieder. Als sie FRANK, 33, trifft, zerbricht etwas in ihr, aber sie wird ihn trotzdem los. Kontrolle bedeutet für Bigna alles.
Ein halbes Jahr später - Bigna und Frank haben eine leidenschaftliche Affäre, und kurz vor Bignas Abreise gestehen sie sich ihre Liebe zueinander. Bigna beschließt zu bleiben. Angetrieben von ihrer grenzenlosen Leidenschaft, lösen sich die beiden nach und nach voneinander. Nach einer Nacht, in der sie sich gegenseitig verletzen, flieht Bigna Hals über Kopf nach Chile, wo sie einen älteren Kollegen heiratet. Frank bleibt alleine zurück und versucht, seinen Schmerz in den Griff zu bekommen. zwei- einhalb Jahre später haben sie getrennt voneinander versucht, neu anzufangen, aber ihre gegenseitige Abhängigkeit verfolgt sie jeden Tag. Und dann treffen sie sich wieder. Ist es möglich, sich gleichzeitig zu lieben und zu hassen?

Sound Design ist für mich ein Spiel mit Assoziationen und Phantasmen. Es gilt einen Umgang zu finden mit intuitiven Eingebungen und kalkulierten Eingriffen. Auch bei der Arbeit an “99 Moons”, der zweite Spielfilm an dem ich als führender Sound Designer arbeiten durfte, verschmolzen diese Herangehensweisen fliessend. Die starke Thematik fand in mir Anklang und ich wollte ihr einen Ausdruck im Ton verschaffen.
Nichtsdestotrotz, um Klarheit über sein eigenes Werk zu erlangen, braucht es eine distanzierte Betrachtung. Die zu dieser Masterarbeit dazugehörige Thesis diente mir als Instrument um meine Arbeit gründlich zu analysieren und um einen Einblick in meine Arbeitsweise zu gewähren.

- Synopsis: Ein Pfiff. Auf den Zuschauerrängen wird es laut. Die Spieler protestieren aufgebracht. Die Kommentatoren verfolgen energisch das Geschehen auf dem Feld. Mitten drin, der Schiedsrichter. Das ganze Stadion schaut auf ihn. Jetzt muss er entscheiden und die Energie eines ganzen Stadions dirigieren.

Kurzfilm, dokumentarisch, 17 Min.
Ich betrat bei einem Testdreh zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben ein Fussball-Stadion. Ich fühlte mich überwältigt von der schieren Masse der Menschen und dem Druck, welche sie durch ihre gemeinsamen Wünsche, Enttäuschungen und Freude auf die Mitte des Feldes richteten. Mit schäumenden Mäulern feuerten sie ihre Mannschaft im Guten wie im Schlechten an. Dieser Moment war massgebend für meine Arbeit im Sounddesign. Ich konnte die Rolle des Schiedsrichters besser verstehen und begriff ab dem Moment auch die Faszination von Hodel. Es war auf dem Set und auch im Studio eine grosse Herausforderung, aber auch eine grosse Freude die Klang-Szenografie und Emotionen eines Stadions nachzubauen und zu verstärken.

Eigentlich fehlt nur noch ein formaler Händedruck zwischen zwei Politikern um einen Vertrag zu besiegeln. Doch als beide Hitzköpfe versuchen innerhalb der Formalität eines Händedrucks die Oberhand zu gewinnen, nimmt ihre Kompromisslosigkeit ein Eigenleben an.

Der Film von Ennio Ruschetti besticht durch seine kompromisslose Machart. Es ist eine Hommage an toxischer Männlichkeit und leerem Politikum, welche in ein Crescendo von Absurdität endet. Als Sound Designer durfte ich mich voll austoben und von Horror- und Comedy Stereotypen gebrauch machen. Um an glaubwürdige Audio-Aufnahmen der Menschenmenge zu kommen, versammelte ich eine Gruppe von zwanzig Leuten und ging mit ihnen die verschiedenen emotionalen Zustände, welche von Still bis panisch und verzweifelt reichen, durch. Insgesamt ein wirklich unterhaltsames Unterfangen.

Synopsis:
An octophonic work exploring breath and the human voice, deconstructed and organised in multimodes, seeking out unventured terroir and sans language, to sound out the unheard, the suppressed, the invisible, the undeveloped, the inner and the other. Eight speakers become embodiments of the alt human. In the deep murky recesses of my clumsy subconscious sprung forth this idea of a better, more improved model human. In this last year, having spent so much time physically alone, and encountering human interaction through zoom or phone conversation only, I came to rely a lot on the voices of people as a gauge for intimacy, or humanity, if you will, a way to measure or tell from hearing vocal articulation, how well I was actually connecting. I started to observe more closely the infinite minute details of voices, and this led to the possibility of redesigning a new sonic experience of human "anima", our vital force. Alchemy dabbling. The human voice can be strong but also vulnerable, incredibly multi-faceted, and a carrier of so much nuance. Another reason why I am curious about this notion of intimacy, is if by working with these voices, there'd still be a way to feel and respond instinctively to the outcome. I also wanted to step back from being a composer, so in using Max to engineer a garden of vocal “happenings”, I relinquish some artistic control and what is heard is a result of autonomous and accidental unfolding events.
